Week One Vibes and Vibe Checks

7 days old

How has it been one week since little Eve came into this world. This week has been full of emotions, good vibes, and bad vibes.

Some of the things that I want to share from my first week are truthful and to the point.

  • If you have pets make sure you give them time and space. First couple of days we were so bombarded with figuring out how to live and how to keep Eve alive we didn’t give the cats the attention that they deserved. Their routine was so out of whack that last night I made sure to give each of them some special love and to ensure I make space for them moving forward.
  • If it is in your budget, or your insurance covers it, get two pumps. Get a travel one and a plug in one, travel one is amazing because you can be mobile and do all the things. But the plug in one tends to be more powerful and it honestly forces you to sit down and take a break for 20 minutes.
  • If you don’t have it already, get Amazon prime for the first month. The same day delivery hits different in the first week.
  • FYI, newborn isn’t 0-3 months. I obv knew that it was different but like 0 is newborn???
  • Get the gerber 5 pack of white onesies, you’ll be going through them.
  • Understand the temp of the room and how much clothes the baby needs to wear while sleeping. Babies can get heat acne, Eve has it, it’s nbd, it does go away within one day but FYI.
  • Learn how to swaddle or buy zip up swaddles. Zip up swaddles are my favorite.
  • Text your friends during your 3 am feedings
  • Do your research, understand how many ounces they need per day – it changes quicker than you would think
  • Get the diapers don’t fool yourself with just pads. Put it this way, you won’t have to do laundry for your underwear for a while.
  • Get a lot of button up pjs for yourself
  • Get a tray to use to bring things back and forth to the kitchen.
  • Trash can for the baby room.
  • Get more than 2 crib sheets lol
  • Be prepared for the smell of the belly button before it falls off.
  • IDK if it’s for everyone but literally everything smells like breast milk to me now.
  • If anyone asks you before you give birth what they can do for you, ask them to make you a meal. It’s so easy to forget to take care of yourself.
  • Go for them daily walks, fresh air is amazing. Baby also LOVES the fresh air nap on your chest.
  • Pls make sure you take your pain meds every 6 hours. The cooter pain sneaks up on you real quick
  • Please go read the poop massage post
  • Your titties will grow and grow
  • Even if you are like me and can’t nap, do the naps.
  • Understand breast milk and how it doesn’t come in right away – I’ll make a post about breast milk.
